In the middle of 2020, I was traveling the country in an RV with my family. We didn’t plan on traveling during a pandemic and we didn’t plan on the trip ending in a crisis pregnancy, and we certainly didn’t plan for all the beautiful things that happened in the middle. As we traveled from place to place, we found ourselves in communities of other believers who had left their churches or particular denominations and had followed Jesus into new expressions of church and faith. We knew that there were other people like us, but finding them organically in our travels and seeing them face to face, sharing meals with them, becoming friends with them, praying with them, and worshipping with them, added flesh and bone and breath to what Jesus was doing outside of the walls of tradition. What he could do if we’d just stop white knuckling our doctrines and ways of doing things.
