oh hey friends.
We took our kids to NYC this weekend for quick trip. Our friends were there so we drove in last night, had dinner together, and drove back this afternoon. We definitely overshot the ease of bringing twin almost two year olds who have some pretty intense sensory issues sometimes to the busiest city in the world but we did it. And now I’m sequestered in my bedroom and my children have been given strict instruction not to talk to me for a few hours. My system is overloaded.
But, this morning we were in the park and the kids were running in all directions playing and I kept having these moments where a memory would overlay the present. I looked over at my three oldest kids and then a memory overlayed on top of them from when they were our little kids, climbing on the same rocks six years ago while our hearts were healing. I walked by a chunk of rocks and saw an overlay of me and brothers climbing on them as little kids and of us sitting on them as teenagers on our first trip to the city without our parents. They were quick little fleeting memories, but good ones. Kind ones.
I moved a lot as a kid. I never went to the same school more than two years in a row. My life was pretty fluid and I just didn’t have a lot of constants. There were only two for me - my Nana and Papa’s house and New York City. Those are the only places where I have consistent memories throughout my entire life. So seeing my kids go through the same phases on the same concrete that I did is pretty special to me. It may be a minute before we try to take five kids to the city again, but today was nice and that’s good.
Anyhoo. I wanted to check in with you about a few things. First - substack has a new feature on their app that I’m kind of into. There’s a “notes” section thatserves as just a social media feed. Kind of a mix between twitter and instagram? I’ve been posting on there a bit (posted my Eras outfit there!) and I think I’m going to start using it more. New things are refreshing and instagram is getting staler and staler for me. Download the app and check it out! Just another way for us to connect and stay in touch.
And speaking of stale instagram, I am giving away a spot for my course : Story - The Spiritual Storytelling Course over there and wanted to save another free spot for one of you! All you need to do is comment on this post! If you’re reading this in your inbox, just click over to the website to leave a comment. I’ll pick someone tomorrow and check back in with everyone later! Registration for the course closes on Wednesday night!
Hope to see you in there!
I can't believe your twins are nearly two! Time really flies. It's amazing to see them doing so well and clambering all over the rocks of NYC 🏙️
I am glad that your layered memories were kind ones. 🩶
